Sidekick Grunnel

This makes the effects of some Rare Potions permanent, see below for details. The potion token must be turned in to the Coach before the game begins.

To equip a Sidekick, the player must also have equipped either a Safehold II or I. See truedungeon.com/safehold for additional details on how Sidekicks work.

Eligible Potions and Effects

Parameters
These are the general rules we follow when determining what Rare Potions are usable in conjunction with Sidekick Grunnel and how they get converted into an adventure-long effect:

  • A healing effect increases your max HP, but it does not heal you during the adventure.
  • HP damage that would have been inflicted on the consumer if they drank the potion decreases max HP*.
  • Non-HP penalties that would have been inflicted on the consumer if they drank the potion apply for the entire adventure*.
  • Status remedies or preventatives make the consumer immune to that status for the whole game.
  • If the potion has an effect that specifies it can only be used once per room, that effect remains limited to once per room. However, you may use the effect (once) in every room of the adventure as long as doing so makes sense.

*Crown of the Tavern cannot negate a drawback for a Potion made permanent by Sidekick Grunnel.

Ineligible Potions/Effects

🚫Anything that just doesn’t make sense or would be egregiously powerful (as determined by TDHQ)
🚫Obsolete potions (e.g., Potion Darkvision)
🚫Polymorph potions
🚫Potions that raise the dead

Eligible Potions and Their Modified Effects:
If it’s not on this list, you can’t use it as a source potion for Sidekick Grunnel. This list will be modified every year.

  • Admiral’s Rum: +5 to max HP; immune to Charm effects
  • Barkskin: +3 to AC
  • Blessed Brandy: +5 to max HP; immune to the side-effects of Undead Touch Attacks
  • Bliss Stout: +5 to max HP; immune to Curse
  • Cure Lt. Wounds (R): +5 to max HP (cannot be used with non-Rare versions of this token)
  • Denner Infusion: +6 to max HP
  • Dwarven Doppelbock: +6 to Strength; -2 to AC
  • Dwarven Mead: immune to Charm, Fear, or Sleep effects
  • Dwarven Stout: +5 to max HP; immune to the side effects from an Undead Touch Attack
  • Fiery Ice Lager: Cold and/or Fire damage inflicted on the user is reduced by 5 points per attack
  • Frostmint Root: +5 to max HP; Fire damage inflicted on the user is reduced by 2 per attack
  • Ghost Rum: +2 to max HP; when attacking an Incorporeal creature, your attacks do not suffer the 50% miss chance
  • Great Spirits: +5 to max HP
  • Heavy Healing: +6 to max HP
  • Leaping Attack: may use a Melee weapon (using Melee combat stats) to attack flying/levitating monsters at will
  • Moon Veil: immune to Curses and/or Diseases
  • Orcish Stout: +8 to max HP; -2 to AC
  • Pelor’s Resolve: immune to Fear
  • Surtr’s Strength: +6 to Strength; -4 to max HP
  • Vale Draught: +6 to max HP
  • Volva’s Ale: +6 to max HP
